How does it work?
-
Source water flows from vessels F.W. distribution system into the water purifier system via a protection valve.
The water pressure in vessels water distribution system is enough to force the source water through the first three filters.
The pump raises the pressure to force the water through the RO membrane and into the tanks.
When the faucet is opened the water flow from the tanks via the last two filters, to the open faucet.
-
We use RO and UV technology that provides our water purifier systems with a safe double bio barrier against bacteria and viruses.
Further, all solid particles, smell, color, taste, metals, chemicals, microorganisms etc. - basically EVERY foreign particle or substance is removed from the water by means of the 6-stage purification system.
1x 5 micron sediment filtration
2x Granular Active Carbon filtration
1x Reverse Osmosis filtration
1x Remineralization
1x UV lamp
How is it installed onboard?
-
The standard installation of the water purifier system requires access to a F.W. outlet in the accommodation, electricity (110/240VAC) and a drain.
Flexible plastic tubes makes it easy to fit the water purifier system under a sink, in a cupboard, in a bracket on the wall etc.
Also space nearby is needed for the external tank
-
The installation in older vessels or vessels with lots of residuals in the F.W. distribution system requires a 40-50 micron pre-filter in addition to the standard installation.
What about source water (feedwater)?
-
Source water for the water purifier system is supplied by vessels F.W tank via vessels F.W. distribution system.
Source water can be produced onboard by vessels desalination system.
The vessel must follow international rules for production of F.W. for domestic use.
-
Source water for the water purifier system is supplied by vessels F.W tank via vessels F.W. distribution system.
Source water can be bunkered with certificate for domestic use.
Bunkered water for technical use without certificate cannot be used as source water for the water purifier system.
How are filters changed and how often?
-
All filters are changed via a click-in, click-out system - everything are included in the handy filter-kit boxes and no tools are needed.
-
Four out of the six filters needs to be changed every 6 months. The last two out of the six filters, needs to be changed every 12 month. As follows:
The 5 micron sediment filters, the Granular Active Carbon filters and the remineralizer should be changed every 6 months.
The RO membrane filter and the UV lamp requires change every 12 months.

Where is it installed?
-
Usually merchant and offshore vessels up to 25 crew, install 2 or 3 units. Typically one in the crews mess room, another one in the officers mess room and one in the galley.
The crew themselves are responsible to tap the water in their reusable bottle and keep it at the temperature they prefer.
Many seafarers find that room temperature drinking water, works better for them.
-
Usually merchant and offshore vessels with more than 25 crew place a unit on each deck, one or two in the galley and one in the mess rooms. However, this highly depend on the crew size.
Usually, these larger vessels has a solution which is a combination of our C100 and our T100 types.
Does it have an alarm system?
-
The water purifier system is continuously monitored via an alarm system that will alert the crew if the water quality or the equipment fails.
Alarm system
Water quality alarm
Leakage alarm
UV malfunction alarm
Filter change / life time alarm
Has it been tested and certified?
-
Certification
All internal parts are NSF certified
CE approved
Quality controlled
Conformity certified
-
A water purifier must be assembled from components that are certified for use in food and beverage processing. Further, it must meet certain electrical standards.
AQUAREX water purifiers goes far beyond these standard requirements by using state-of-art filtration concepts, by using double bio barrier, by following strict disinfection procedures in the manufacturing process and by tracking all our water purifier units by serial number.
Moreover, AQUAREX water purifiers are also designed with an alarm system to assist the crew in the maintenance and warn about abnormalities.
The best way to test and certify purified water is to engage with an accredited laboratory make a water analysis of the purified water itself.
Only in this way the feedwater to the purifier, the actual purification job incl. all its sub-processes, are verified and certified for a specific water purifier unit.
For this reason, we strongly recommend frequent water analysis carried out by an accredited laboratory, according to WHO test standards.
How is the water tested?
-
The dispensed water can be tested on a weekly basis oboard by means of a simple drinking water test kit.
Such test kit for use onboard can for example determine the pH value, the TDS and bacteria colonies. Its pretty accurate and help to keep the crew assured that all is OK.
